In the two
years of 1988-1989, "Application of remote sensing techniques in protected
forest in the coastal zone in China" was funded by Natural Science
Foundation and Excellent Young Instructor Foundation. Based on the principles of forest ecology, similarity and
divergence of forest environmental conditions, coastal physical geographical
principle, and visual interpretation of computer processed remotely sensed
imagery (TM), shelter forest environment types on the coastal zone with
quantitative theory II were successfully classified and they were evaluated
using quantitative site index table and the synthetic model of fuzzy linear
weight transformation. The
technique has very important practical value in classifying, evaluating and
protecting environment in the coastal zone. Because of outstanding research achievements, this project
was awarded the Science and Technology Prize by the Chinese government in 1991.
