North
America Fire Mapping. This is a
three year project sponsored by NASA to map the North America forest fire
history for years 1985 - 2000.
Beginning at mid-2000, this project requires processing 16 years of
daily NOAA/AVHRR data to detect daily hotspots such that finally mapping annual
burned scars in the North America.
Besides, this project also requires studying on when (what season) the
burned scars happen and how large areas were burned and what factors caused the
burned scars happening. The project
is joined by four organizations: UC Berkeley, Canada CCRS, USFS and NASA-data
center.
